Furthermore, various activities in the Ducal Museum and the Chamber of Wonders are on the program on the same day. There is an entry fee of 8 euros (reduced 4 euros, children under 13 free).

On October 8th, the Gotha Inventors' Workshop, also in the Ducal Museum and the Chamber of Wonders, will be open to children aged 11 and over. The creative work will take place on October 8th and 9th from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Here too, admission is 8 euros (reduced 4 euros, children under 13 free). Anyone who is still interested in history can immerse themselves in the fascinating world of ancient cultures with “The Gold of the Ming Dynasty” or the discovery of the “Secret of the Mummy”, also on October 8th.

Things get even more interesting in the following days. A special event called “Golden Stories” takes place on October 14th and 15th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to take little visitors on an exciting journey through history. Admission is also free to the “Sculptures of a City” event, which takes place in the Wunderkammer from October 14th to 16th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A look behind the scenes at the Ducal Museum

The Ducal Museum, which was built between 1864 and 1879 in the historicist style, has been preserved down to the last detail both inside and out. The extensive renovation of the last few years was carried out thanks to funding from the federal government, the Free State of Thuringia and the city of Gotha, with a reopening in 2013. Today the exhibits are an impressive result of the collecting-loving Dukes of Gotha and consist, among other things, of Egyptian mummies, antique vases and valuable art treasures from China and Japan.

Particular highlights of the collection include colorful works by Peter Paul Rubens, Lucas Cranach the Elder and Caspar David Friedrich. These impressive treasures are displayed in newly designed rooms in the museum, making the visit an unforgettable experience. A virtual tour of the Ducal Museum is also available, so that anyone interested can discover Gotha's art and culture at any time.

There are always many reasons to visit Gotha's historical sites and experience the creative side of life up close. More information and the opportunity to register for the events can be found on the [Friedenstein] Foundation website (https://www.stiftung-friedenstein.de/herzogliches-museum). Be there and enjoy the creative festivities in Gotha!
