Bad Rodach plans wind power: resistance in Hetschbach and Massenhausen!

The city of Bad Rodach recently passed a far-reaching resolution that is intended to promote the use of wind power in the region. The city plans to build wind turbines by 2030. A wind priority area is designated near the Green Belt, which could also have a direct impact on the neighboring communities of Hetschbach (Veilsdorf community) and Massenhausen (Straufhain community) in Thuringia. However, this development is not without resistance, as there is dissatisfaction with the plans in the affected communities. So reported inSouth Thuringia that citizens' concerns must be taken seriously.

Wind turbines become realistic

As part of a city council resolution, two priority areas for wind turbines have now been officially established. North of Heldritt, up to nine wind turbines are to be planned in the “Gellnhausen” area, which can reach proud heights of around 270 meters. The districts of Gellnhausen, Lempertshausen, Heldritt, Grattstadt and Bad Rodach are affected by this project. The resolution was passed on Monday evening with only two votes against NP Coburg reported. Three citizens' meetings are planned for the affected residents in the near future in order to provide citizens with comprehensive information.

A new civic engagement

In order to promote acceptance of wind projects, citizen participation is becoming increasingly important. The organization eueco recently published updated guidelines on citizen financial participation in wind and solar projects. These include practical orientation for project sponsors and highlight relevant topics such as organization and the legal framework. Josef Baur, the managing director of eueco, points out that there are numerous questions about citizen participation that are addressed in the guidelines. Not only project developers benefit from new formats such as electricity bonus and resident electricity models, but also the communities, because they can better express their interests, as on the website Wind industry in Germany is explained.

Outlook on developments

With the designation of the wind priority areas in Bad Rodach and the citizen participation initiatives, it is clear that the use of wind power should also find its way into the region. How the plans can ultimately be reconciled with the reservations of the residents in Hetschbach and Massenhausen remains to be seen. Nevertheless, this could be an interesting step towards the development of a more sustainable energy supply. The upcoming citizens' meetings will certainly be a decisive factor in seriously addressing and perhaps even resolving citizens' concerns.
