Burglary in Themar: Police looking for witnesses after brazen theft!

Yesterday evening, between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., a break-in occurred in a residential building on the market in Themar. Unknown perpetrators used the darkness to force open the apartment door and ransacked the premises. They stole two power banks and around 60 euros in cash. The material damage caused amounts to around 200 euros. The police have started an investigation and are urgently looking for witnesses who can provide relevant information. Anyone who has seen anything should immediately contact the Hildburghausen police station on 03685 778-0. The corresponding file number is 0157043/2025. The report is based on a report from the Suhl State Police Inspectorate.

A break-in like this is not only a material loss, but also damages the sense of security of those affected. House break-ins, i.e. unauthorized entry into living spaces with the intent to steal, are increasing in Germany. According to an analysis by Statista, there were around 119,000 break-ins into or out of apartments in 2023. Urban areas such as Bremen and Berlin are considered particularly affected, while the risk of burglary is significantly lower in more rural regions such as Bavaria. Despite the increasing number of cases, the clearance rate for residential burglaries is only 14.9%, which leaves room for improvement. Statista points out that compared to 2015, the number of burglaries is still over 50% lower.

Background to residential burglaries

The approach to burglaries varies considerably. While some perpetrators force their way into the apartment, others use tricks or keys to get in unnoticed. The psychological pressure that a break-in places on victims is often just as bad as the material damage. The Presseportal emphasizes that residential burglaries not only lead to losses, but can also massively affect privacy and the feeling of security.

Given the current situation, it is more important than ever to be vigilant and report any suspicious sightings immediately. Together we can help make our neighborhoods safer. Stay vigilant and protect your own four walls - and do not hesitate to contact the police if you have observed anything that could help solve such acts.
