Safe CSD in Jena: 3,000 participants celebrate variety and cohesion!
Jena, Deutschland - Next Saturday, June 22, 2025, a colorful Christopher Street Day (CSD) will take place in Jena, who wants to set a clear sign of diversity and acceptance with a lot of around 3,000 expected participants. Under the motto "Never quiet again! - because variety wants to shine!" If the organizers plan a rich parade through the city, which begins at 1:00 p.m. with a rally on the Eichplatz. The route leads the participants over the Leutewarraben, Fürstengraben, Löbdergraben and Holzmarkt to the lawnmill island, where the final event starts at 4:00 p.m.
Almost a week before the event, the situation seems to be calm for the time being. According to mz.de there are currently no signs of disruptions or opposing demonstrations, which the organizers and the police breathe a sigh of relief. Theresa Ertel, spokeswoman for the CSD Jena Alliance, emphasizes that the social mood has changed in recent years and admits that queer people do not have a feeling of security everywhere in Germany. Despite the positive signs in the run -up to the CSDS, the security awareness remains high, especially after incidents in other CSDs, where there were disruptive actions.
safety precautions and traffic restrictions
The police emphasize that emergency services are sensitized and that the planning may be adjusted in order to be able to react to unexpected situations. Even if no specific threats are currently being signaled, a more vigilant attitude remains the order of the day, especially in view of the past few weeks in which threats to other CSDs, such as in Wernigerode and Regensburg, were known.
The city also expects restrictions on road traffic and in public transport, which could be a certain challenge for the residents: inside. However, many are looking forward to the hustle and bustle and the opportunity to show solidarity with the queer community.
A broad review of the CSDs in Germany
The CSD in Jena is part of an impressive list of over 140 events that take place throughout Germany. According to tagesschau.de , these events mobilized almost four million people in 2023, which is the highest number of participants: inside since the beginning of these events. It is gratifying to see that even smaller CSDs - especially in Bavaria and eastern Germany - are gaining in importance, despite the increasing danger of interference.
The positive signs of the CSDs are accompanied by a shadow. The Federal Government's queer officer expressed concern about the increasing violence against the Queere community and speaks of a "success story with dark sides". The organizers in Jena hope that their event will not only be a celebration of diversity, but also offers a space for security and acceptance. A good hand for planning the CSD in Jena could make the decisive difference here.
