Construction of the Südlink direct current line: Wasungen is preparing!
There is news in Cologne that is of great importance for residents and interested parties. The construction work for South link direct current route in Wasungen will begin in a few weeks. This was announced at a recent City Council meeting and it is clear that this is a project of significant magnitude.
The planned route is around 700 kilometers long and extends from Schleswig-Holstein to Baden-Württemberg. A major obstacle to construction is the crossing of federal highway 19 near Bonndorf. Kevin Zdiara, press spokesman for the project, and representatives of the transmission company Transnet BW explained at the meeting how construction will proceed in the coming months.
Challenges and impairments
However, construction site operations also come with a number of disruptions. Transnet BW points out that residents must expect noise, traffic delays and dirt. It is therefore important for the company to maintain constant communication with those affected. Special contact persons were provided for each construction phase to facilitate communication.
The Südlink direct current line will not only be important for the infrastructure, but also contribute to the energy transition. It is intended to transport wind power from the north to southern Germany and thus supply a total of ten million households. The project aims to effectively channel excess electricity from the north to the south, which is of particular interest to households in our state.
Increased costs and new dates
The projected costs for the project are around ten billion euros. The route was originally supposed to be completed at the end of 2022, but the start of the construction project has now been scheduled for 2025. This is particularly relevant for the residents of Wasungen and the surrounding areas, as many planning and construction phases have to be geared towards this.
Particular attention is paid to the acceptance of the population. TransnetBW boss Werner Götz emphasizes how important it is that citizens can express their concerns. Intensive discussions are therefore planned with farmers whose land will be used for the construction. Operations will be continuous, including high-pressure jetting drilling carried out 24 hours a day, but noise emissions will be designed to remain below legal limits.
According to information from Transnet BW now completed. All necessary permit applications have been submitted and detailed planning is underway in close collaboration with civil engineers. In the best case scenario, one can hope for rapid progress with the project – despite all the challenges.
The coming months will show how the situation will develop for residents and whether the information and measures promised by Transnet BW will actually bear fruit. The construction of the Südlink direct current line is a central project that will also play a major role for the citizens of Cologne and beyond. Let’s stay tuned for the next steps!
