Motor vehicle insurance changes 2025: Schmalkalden-Meiningen benefits from lower regional classes. Drivers save on premiums.

New momentum for Thuringian drivers: regional classes are changing!
Next year there will be new developments in motor vehicle liability insurance that will affect around 200,000 drivers in Thuringia. According to the current information from Thüringen.de There will be lower regional classes in the Weimarer Land, Saale-Holzland and Schmalkalden-Meiningen districts. This means that around 160,000 car owners in these regions can benefit from cheaper insurance premiums.
But not all car owners can be happy. In the city of Jena, around 40,000 drivers have to prepare for an upgrade. This means higher contributions for these drivers, while the lower classifications in the other circles mentioned will lead to more economical use of money.
The basis of the classifications
These changes are based on the loss history in recent years. Higher claims payments from insurers result in premiums rising, as is the case ADAC explained. The regional classes are determined annually based on new risk assessments. For the coming year, new classifications will be made in 76 of the 412 approval districts. Liability regional classes will be changed in 108 of these counties, meaning up to 9.4 million drivers in 49 counties may have to pay higher premiums.
The regional classes are calculated by analyzing the damage balances of the respective areas. Larger cities such as Berlin or Hamburg generally have higher premiums, while rural regions can offer more favorable ratings. A clever change of insurance can save a lot of money here, especially when you consider that the cancellation periods for contracts at the beginning of the year usually run until November 30th.
