Schmalkalden: District Council transfers the Elisabeth Clinic, Stadt outside!

Schmalkalden, Deutschland - In Schmalkalden, an important step in health policy has been taken. The city wanted to participate in the Elisabeth Clinic, but the State administration office Thuringia has now rejected this wish. Mayor Thomas Kaminski informed the employees in the hospital that municipal participation would only be considered if the clinic only cares for the city's citizens. However, since the Elisabeth Clinic has a national importance and also treats many patients from the surrounding area, the path was blocked for participation.

Despite this rejection, the city of Schmalkalden remains very connected to the hospital. The Elisabeth Clinic has an important role in the health care of the region and will continue to be respected and supported by the city in the future.

The district assumes responsibility

as the MDR , the district council Schmalkalden-Meiningen took the decision on Thursday evening. This decision also includes the medical care center. The company's shares in the clinic are transferred to the district by the district works Schmalkalden-Meiningen GmbH.

The district had already supported the clinic financially last year, with a total of 3 million euros - 500,000 euros from its own resources and 2.5 million euros in the form of a loan. Particularly gratifying for the clinic: As part of the takeover, the hospital does not have to repay the funds obtained. The aim of this measure is to find solutions for the remaining district works companies, which include the Meininger Busesbetriebe and the Schmalkalden senior park.
