Day of the Costume: A celebration of homeland love in Kaltennordheim!
Germany's cultural diversity will be celebrated this Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, in Kaltennordheim with the now annual “Tracht Day”. This lively event, which is organized by the folklore dance group Kaltenlengsfeld e.V. and the local history and history association Merlins Kaltennordheim e.V., has the motto: “Love of home meets German customs”. Not only traditional costume lovers will get their money's worth here, but also everyone who is interested in the local culture.
Anyone who is enthusiastic about traditional dances, music and the preservation of customs has come to the right place this Sunday. The event offers a varied program that ranges from sword dancing to Jew's harps to birch leaf performances. Almost all of the players come from the two organizing clubs, who will present their traditions with passion. There will also be an exhibition showing the Rhön traditional costumes and the associated folk artistic traditions. These aspects are not only pretty to look at, but also give an idea of how important the preservation of these traditions is for regional identity.
A look at the program
Visitors can look forward to a variety of activities. These include:
A major concern of the organizers is the promotion of regional customs and traditional music in the community. After all, this special day should be established as an integral part of regional events and invite people to celebrate their homeland and its cultural heritage.
Tradition lives on
“Tracht Day” is not only a celebration of the traditional costumes themselves, but also an important element of German traditions. In Germany there are numerous cultural festivals that revolve around maintaining customs. For example, visiting Oktoberfest becomes a ritual, just like the festive Christmas markets that attract people from near and far. Traditions Day, celebrated on May 1, also has its roots in the appreciation of cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation. Such festivals strengthen national identity and create awareness of the diversity of regional customs.
One more reason to mark the first Sunday in November red on your calendar and get your traditional costume out of the closet. Tickets for the event are available in advance for just 6 euros, while you pay 8 euros at the box office. Children have free entry provided they do not wear their own dirndl or lederhosen. And there is even a great offer for people wearing traditional costumes: you only pay 4 euros. A good deal for anyone who wants to have a nice day with the family!
No matter how you look at it, “Tracht Day” is a great opportunity to identify with and pass on the culture and traditions of the region. The organizers are looking forward to a colorful hustle and bustle and lots of happy faces.
