Another good news: Every first Tuesday of the month, visitors can enter free of charge, which makes this event attractive, especially for large groups.

A look at Mirjam Pressler

A special highlight of the exhibition is the appreciation of the renowned author Mirjam Pressler. This is considered one of the most successful children's and youth book authors in German-speaking countries. Born in Darmstadt in 1940 she experienced a childhood that was characterized by loneliness, poverty and violence. But she never let herself get down and has dreamed of a career as a painter since her youth. At the age of 39, she finally found the way to the writer. Your works not only address difficult topics such as fear and violence, but also hits bridges over your own pain. The courage and hope are the central motifs of their stories.

The exhibition in Erfurt is also supplemented by additional aspects that include the new exhibition locations. According to the organizers, this show is realized in cooperation with the Jewish Museum Frankfurt, where it was already seen in 2024. There she was a complete success with her focus on the survival stories from the time of National Socialism and blossomed when several visitors got an insight into the moving biographies that shape Pressler's books.

a place of memory

The old synagogue not only has an enormous meaning as an event location, but also as a piece of living history. It is part of the Jewish Museum of Erfurt and is therefore in the tradition of many other important Jewish museums in Germany and worldwide, which are committed to preservation and memory of Jewish life. Museums such as that in Wiesbaden or the Jewish Museum Berlin have similar goals by keeping the stories and experiences of the Jewish community alive.

For everyone who is interested in history and culture, the exhibition "Writing is Happiness" is an exciting opportunity not only to immerse yourself in the world of Mirjam Pressler, but also to take a look at the diverse topics that shape Jewish identity and history. With accessibility, palpitations and video guides, the old synagogue also offers an inclusive framework that makes it easier for everyone to immerse yourself in this captivating world.
