Buttstädt cracks mulled wine world record-368 mug sold!

On Sunday afternoon, the Buttadt horse market in the Sömmerda district ensured a new mulled wine record! Visitors: Inside, over 368 mugs were able to look forward to wonderful mulled wine and punch, and were able to surpass the previous record of 298 cups. The notary Reinhardt Rothe was on site and counted the cups to properly document the campaign. But the event didn't just have the goal of seting a record. The proceeds from mulled wine sales flow into important children's and youth projects in the region. Five euros per hot drink sold will be donated to enable excursions, baking room tours, farm visits and stadium tours at FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt. The Buttstädtner horse market is an event with history. This event has been taking place since 1637, initially in the context of trade with user cattle before it has shifted to the marketing of horses. Unfortunately, the market could not take place during the Second World War, but in 1982 it was revived by a small organizational group. In the following years, interest grew, and even in the planned economy of the GDR, it was possible to maintain tradition.

A highlight was in 1988 when over 37,000 visitors flocked the market. Today the horse market has developed into the largest folk festival in the Sömmerda district. The event always takes place on the first weekend in July, which includes both market drives and musical entertainment and horse offers.
