Successful MINT day in Sonneberg: diversity inspires young and old!
August 27, 2025 will be marked in Sonneberg as a sunny highlight in the city's history. The 6th MINT Day took place for the first time in the city park and attracted numerous visitors who were enthusiastic about mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology. With a colorful program of experiments, do-it-yourself stations and hands-on activities, the event offered both younger and older guests a lot of fun and knowledge. Over 40 exhibitors were on site, including schools, daycare centers and local companies, to provide insights into professional fields and training opportunities, according to sonneberg.de.
The organizational head behind this event, Marco Kuhnt, and his team have managed to achieve a new record number of exhibitors. The move from Piko Square to the city park proved to be the right move. The number of visitors was so high that the organizers were pleased with the lively participation. The good atmosphere and the pleasant weather also contributed a lot to the positive atmosphere. Mayor Dr. Heiko Voigt was simply impressed by the large number of exhibitors and made it clear how important such events are in arousing interest in MINT careers.
Diverse offers for all age groups
The younger visitors in particular enjoyed the fun and exciting stations, while the older students primarily tackled the MINT careers market. Here they could find out about training, study and internship opportunities. The combination of fun and knowledge seemed to work – if that doesn’t smell like a successful concept!
Oberlind Elementary School contributed to the program by giving those interested an insight into the world of programming. Voigt expressed the wish that similar events should also be offered at other primary schools. A good idea to promote MINT skills early on! For teachers and students, MINT Day is not only an opportunity to obtain information, but also a call to develop creative and technical talents.
Important contribution to MINT funding
A survey by the Telekom Foundation indicates that many young people do not adequately acquire the basic skills in MINT subjects. Therefore, MINT career orientation is of great importance. This initiative is intended to help schools create attractive learning opportunities and increase interest in MINT careers. In this context, the new MINT careers market was introduced, which is specifically aimed at showing students the prospects in MINT careers. The project is open to all schools and offers funding of up to 6,000 euros for innovative projects.
The combination of fun, knowledge and practical information makes Sonneberg a true “MINT-friendly city”. With ongoing contributions to promoting STEM skills, Sonneberg emphasizes that education in these areas can not only be important, but also attractive. Let's be surprised at what creative and exciting events await us in the future in this lively city!
