Creative wood art meets music: Sculpture symposium started in Steinach!

The traditional sculpture symposium started this week in picturesque Steinach, an event that not only delights art lovers, but also impressively showcases the region's creativity. This year the event will take place in the last week of June in the castle courtyard of Steinach and impresses with an innovative approach: the artists have decided to create elf-like drops and figures with an electric drive from oak trunks. A very special highlight is the musical background provided by the “Vierklang” ensemble from the Sonneberg Music School. The talented musicians Juliane Hoffmann, Aaron Heinrich and Roland Brehm created a pleasant atmosphere right at the beginning of the symposium with their gentle sounds, before the sounds of chainsaws took over the scene. During the course of the event, the musical ensemble will even expand from a trio to a quintet, which will give the symposium an even more festive touch inSüThüringen reported.

The sculpture symposium was launched in 2006 by Volker Sesselmann, a local wood sculptor, and has since developed into a popular and firmly established event in the region's event calendar. In recent years it has become clear that this event is attracting more and more interested visitors who want to look over the artists' shoulders and talk shop. It's worth it because up to six talented sculptors work here for a week with wood and stone and create impressive works of art.

Experience art and community

During the symposium, visitors not only have the opportunity to experience the creation of the works of art up close, but can also exchange ideas with the artists. This interaction between the audience and artists is in the foreground and is an important part of the entire event. Many of the works of art created from previous symposia are already distributed throughout the city and can be admired in public buildings and prominent places. Particularly noteworthy is the Christmas nativity scene with life-size figures, which were made in 2011 and 2012 and are based on templates from the traditional company Marolin®. The year-round presence of these works of art enriches the cityscape and attracts numerous visitors, as Steinach's official website makes clear: Steinach Thüringen.

The sculpture symposium in Steinach is not only a showcase for the regional art scene, but also a place for encounters and exchange. While a group of artists work with great skill and artistic sensitivity, the castle courtyard is transformed into a place of creation and enjoyment. The mix of art and music ensures that the symposium is an unforgettable experience for everyone.

A look outside the box

Similar formats also exist elsewhere, such as in the artist village of Worpswede. A sculpture symposium will take place there between August 18th and September 8th, with the motto “Light – Form – Shadow”. Here, 5 to 7 sculptors will work in the garden of the Altes Rathaus gallery and bring the anniversary celebration of the 150th birthday of the important sculptor Bernhard Hoetger to life. Here too, the direct encounter between artists and the audience is of central importance, which makes the symposium a unique experience for those interested in art, as Worpswede's tourism website informs: Worpswede Touristik.

Overall, it is clear that sculpture symposiums not only produce creative stone and wood works, but also make a significant contribution to community and cultural exchange. Art connects, creates encounters and enriches our cities in many ways.
