South American magic: Acordeones del Uruguay” inspires in Neuhaus!

Last Saturday evening in Neuhaus am Rennweg, a musical event brought South American joie de vivre and a little bit of Uruguay in the middle of Thuringia. Talented accordion players performed under the title “Acordeones del Uruguay”, including Silvio, Hector, Nestor, Raquel and many other outstanding artists. This special concert event attracted not only music lovers, but also high-ranking guests from politics and diplomacy, including the Ambassador of Uruguay to Germany, Fernando López Fabregat, as well as the Consul Francisca Mescia and Mario Suckert, State Secretary in the Thuringian Ministry for Economy, Agriculture and Rural Areas.

This event was no coincidence, as Uruguay, officially the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, has a rich culture characterized by a variety of European influences and local traditions. With its 176,215 square kilometers, Uruguay is a tranquil country in South America that borders Argentina and Brazil and is home to a population of around 3.5 million people. Montevideo, the capital, has become a cultural center that attracts around 3.8 million tourists every year, especially from neighboring countries.

The musical performance

The concert offered a varied mix of music that transported listeners to the tropical climes of Uruguay. In addition to artists such as bassist Cristobal and drummer José, an impressive triangle player, Maria, was also at work. The performance included not only heart-pounding sounds, but also a peaceful atmosphere, supported by the presence of Sonneberg District Administrator Robert Sesselmann. The mayor of Neuhaus, Uwe Scheler, and Henry Worm, member of the state parliament, rounded off the illustrious guest list.

The event concluded with a commemorative photo in front of a flag of Uruguay, symbolizing the connection between the two cultures and underlining best wishes for future cooperation and cultural exchange.

Cultural connections to Uruguay

Uruguay's cultural scene is rich in traditions and events on offer. For example, the Semana Criolla is currently taking place in Montevideo, which celebrates the Criollo culture and offers a lively mix of music, dance and crafts. This type of festivities is an excellent opportunity to experience Uruguay's rural life up close and learn more about its unique cultural customs, such as tango and candombe, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors should also take advantage of the opportunity to discover emerging talent in the art scene at the Contemporary Art Fair in Punta del Este, which welcomes local and international artists.

Uruguayan society invites you to immerse yourself deeply in its cultures. If you plan to discover Uruguay, you should plan the events in advance and talk to locals. Here you can not only enjoy traditional gaucho cuisine, but also learn how to dance the tango - an experience not to be missed!

Finally, the event in Neuhaus am Rennweg not only shows the musical diversity of Uruguay, but also the strong desire for cultural exchange and the cultivation of international relationships, which are very important to us in Cologne and far beyond. We look forward to more such enriching events that bring cultures closer together.
