Monument Day in Suhl: Visit historical treasures and concerts!
On Sunday, September 14, 2025, Suhl will open its doors toOpen Monument Day. Under the motto “VALUE-full: priceless or irreplaceable?” loads the German Monument Protection Foundation to discover the significance of historical buildings for the region. The event is intended to demonstrate a commitment to the social relevance of monuments and monument preservation.
Particular highlights are the Schillingschmiede and the New Town Hall. The Schillingschmiede opens its doors from 1 p.m. to around 5 p.m. and presents a small exhibition on the history of the blacksmith shop. Visitors can look forward to descriptive tours, which are available upon request, as well as coffee and cake provided by the Paul Greifzu School. The renovation of the historic windows by the Springer blacksmith is also viewed with particular interest here.
Insights into the New Town Hall
TheNew town hall, former headquarters of the SED district leadership and now an administrative center, is open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The day will be officially opened by Mayor André Knapp at 2 p.m. Visitors receive rare insights into the architecture and usage history of this important building. Another cultural treat is a classical concert in the Villa Sauer. ThisTrio d'anchesThe Meininger Hofkapelle will present a repertoire of works by important composers such as Beethoven and Mozart from 4 p.m. Bassoonist Alexander John will also lighten up the concert with prose pieces that are worth reading.
Valuable preservation through monument protection
This year's motto for Monument Day also aims to reinforce the value of monuments for society. The loss of monuments would not only endanger important contemporary witnesses, but also cause important knowledge and craftsmanship, which are anchored in many historical buildings, to be forgotten. Monument protection is often perceived as complicated and expensive, but monument preservation and preservation contain valuable aspects of our history.
Tickets for the events are available in advance for anyone interested. With a lot of commitment and a good hand, the organizers are ready to offer an unforgettable experience and bring the region's treasures closer to the general public.
