Kenzie Foley: Volleyball star starts new adventure in Germany!
Kenzie Foley, a talented volleyball player, is about to immerse herself in the professional volleyball scene in Germany. The former St. Cloud State University player has secured a place in the German league with a one-year contract with VfB Suhl LOTTO Thüringen. Foley, who started her sporting career with degrees in finance and data analytics, not only overcomes the challenge of switching from indoor to beach volleyball, but also builds on her impressive career.
After an eventful time at St. Cloud State, where she was honored as the 2023 AVCA DII National Player of the Year, Foley transferred to Central Arkansas to play beach volleyball. The transition from indoor to sand volleyball was not without difficulties. Adapting to playing on the sandy surface was particularly challenging, but Foley was able to significantly improve her blocking skills and understanding of volleyball. These newfound skills could help her make her mark on the European volleyball scene, where she will begin preseason training with the team in August. Your decision to choose VfB Suhl LOTTO Thüringen came about not least through the recommendation of Eleanor Holthaus, a former player of the club. She prioritized skill development and success rather than opting for greater financial incentives.
An exciting new beginning
Foley, originally from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, will move to Germany in July to begin her career as a professional volleyball player. “I'm looking forward to the new challenge, although I'm nervous at the same time,” she said as her final work is underway at McArthur Sheet Metal in South Sioux City, Nebraska, before her impending departure. Seasonal business in the German league will last until next spring, and Foley plans to continue her professional involvement beyond this period.
In addition to Foley, the Beach Bears program at Central Arkansas University will see significant changes under the leadership of coach Avery Thibodeaux. Two transfers and five new additions of fresh talent are expected for the coming season. In addition to Foley, Callie Mullins from Oklahoma, another promising player with experience in indoor volleyball, also joins the team. Thibodeaux praises the competitiveness and leadership skills of both players, who will provide valuable support to the team.
Volleyball as a career path
Developing a career in volleyball is an exciting prospect for many players. According to research, 63% of college players want to pass on their knowledge to coaching after their playing careers. The transition from player to coach not only offers new leadership and teaching opportunities, but can also have a decisive impact on your subsequent professional career. Many people take advantage of the opportunity to start coaching while they continue to develop professionally in their field of study. In the coming years, we may see an increase in demand for professional volleyball coaches, especially among young players who, like Foley and her new colleagues, want to benefit from the role models in these positions.
The next few months promise exciting times for Kenzie Foley and the Central Arkansas beach volleyball program. We can't wait to see what new path she will take in European volleyball and how she can continue to develop her skills.
