In Germany, the development of crime has been observed for some time. According to the Police Crime Statistics (PKS) from the Federal Criminal Police Office, crime fell by 1.7% to around 5.84 million cases in 2024. A significant reason for this decline is the reduced number of cannabis crimes, which has come about as a result of partial legalization since April 1, 2024. Nevertheless, there is an increase in crimes that affect the population's sense of security.  Statista makes it clear that the dark field – i.e. unrecorded crimes – continues to be a serious problem.

Education and security

The clearance rate was 58% in 2024, which represents a slight decrease compared to the previous year. Another problem is the increasing number of non-German suspects, which now make up 41.8%. However, there are encouraging developments in crime statistics: the number of young suspects under the age of 21 fell by 6% to around 452,000. Despite this positive development, the security situation remains tense and structures that counter crime are still in demand.

Police are asking citizens to be more vigilant and sensitive to suspicious activity. Any clue could be crucial in clearing up what happened during the said attack. Are you thinking about where you can best keep a protective hand over your belongings? The officers' advice: Always act with caution and be ready to react immediately if there are any suspicions.  Press portal makes it clear that any help, no matter how small, can be invaluable.
