Strange volleys start as promoted teams with a clear 0:3 against Suhl!

On Sunday at 3:30 p.m. the time had finally come: The Skurios Volleys Borken celebrated their first appearance in the Volleyball Bundesliga after a long time in the second division. With 1,042 enthusiastic fans in the Mergelsberg sports hall, the atmosphere was already high before the game. But the team had to admit defeat against VfB Suhl LOTTO Thüringen 3-0, despite a passionate game.

In the first set, the volleys were back right from the start and quickly found themselves 1:5 behind, which played into the hands of their higher-class opponents. They ultimately lost the first set 25:17. The Borken team also started strongly in the second set and initially led 2-0. But the momentum quickly reversed and they lost again, this time 25:18. They were also unable to use the third set, in which Borken briefly led 3:1, to win and ultimately lost 25:21.

Emotions and highlights

The game wasn't just about scoring challenges. There was a lot of emotion on the field: Suhl's setter Lara Nagels saw a yellow card, and coach László Hollósy also had to deal with a red card. Despite the defeat, there were bright spots: Lara Kretschmer was named the Skurios Volleys' best player (MVP) and showed that she is an important pillar of the team. Her opponent Lara Nagels received the gold MVP medal.

Coach Danuta Brinkmann was positive about her team's performance and saw progress despite the setback. “It’s a new beginning and we’ve seen that we can keep up with the big guys,” said Brinkmann. Press spokesman Thomas Hacker was pleased about the unexpected crowd in the hall and the positive atmosphere that prevailed despite the defeat.

Outlook for the upcoming games

After this emotional start, the next game is already on the schedule. On October 19th, the Skurios Volleys will play at VC Wiesbaden before continuing on October 25th in the Mergelsberg Sporthalle against Allianz MTV Stuttgart. The current season's schedule promises many exciting encounters, and fans can look forward to more exciting volleyball evenings.
