Suhl in crisis: The economy urgently needs new impulses!
The economic situation in the Suhl, Zella-Mehlis, Oberhof and Schleusingen region is tense. Current data shows that the economy is in recession, as insuedthueringen.de reports. A survey by the South Thuringia Chamber of Industry and Commerce in early summer 2025 confirms that an economic recovery is currently not in sight. The survey is an important mood barometer that collects answers from small, medium-sized and large companies in all sectors and processes them anonymously.
A worrying picture is emerging in the region. The assessment of the economic data is cautious, which applies not only to Suhl and the surrounding area, but also to other locations in southern Thuringia. While the discussion about economic policy issues in the region has become less important, it is increasingly dominated by federal policy issues. As a result, it is difficult for local concerns to be heard.
Business situation survey
The IHK Südthüringen carries out this valuable survey three times a year in order to obtain a comprehensive picture of the business situation. Companies can fill out the questionnaires both online and in paper form, and the results are included in the chamber's economic report. The next survey period begins on March 31, 2025, with Mailjet from Luxembourg being used to send the surveys, as suhl.ihk.de reports.
The feedback from companies is not only important for the IHK, it also offers political decision-makers important insights in order to develop suitable measures to stimulate the economy. Given the widespread economic uncertainty, it remains to be seen whether and how quickly a recovery is possible. The commitment and cooperation of local actors could be crucial to meet this challenge.
