Storm chaos in Thuringia: Weimar family urgently needs help!

On Sunday, June 1st, a violent storm hit Thuringia, particularly the Weimar region, with full force. Heavy rain turned streets into raging streams and led to devastating floods. The result was violent mud and debris avalanches. The fire brigades were in constant operation for hours to combat the dramatic effects of the penetrating masses of water. The rural community of Am Ettersberg was hit particularly hard, where a family urgently needs help. Their situation has sparked a wave of solidarity, and a family friend, Luise, has started a call for donations on GoFundMe to support the reconstruction. Images of the devastation can be seen on the site, documenting the massive extent of the damage. The water and mud broke through the boundaries of their barn, entered the home and devastated the garden. Thuringia24 reports.

Throughout the night, the family, supported by neighbors and friends, fought against the destruction. The mud has been removed, but the damage remains enormous. There are high costs for repairs and protective measures against future storms, and Luise is calling for support because the affected family has often been helpful in the past.

Further damage in the Weimar region

But there were problems not only in Am Ettersberg. The Tannroda district of Bad Berka was also hit hard: gravel piled up to half a meter high here and a road was partially washed out. The central heavy rain overwhelmed the sewer systems, which meant that in many places the streets were up to 30 centimeters under water. Gullies were blocked by debris, which severely impaired operations. Fire brigades from surrounding towns had to be deployed several times to defuse the situation. There was also an accident involving three vehicles on the A4 near Weimar due to the rain-soaked road, which also caused material damage of around 50,000 euros. MDR informed.

In order to counteract the catastrophic weather conditions, the German Weather Service (DWD) warned of severe thunderstorms in large parts of Thuringia. In the coming days it will remain cool with maximum temperatures of 20 to 24 degrees, but from Tuesday the temperatures are expected to become more summery again.

Storm warnings and their consequences

The severe weather center has provided comprehensive information on the heavy rain warnings in Thuringia, which are divided into two categories: advance warnings and acute warnings. Particularly affected are areas where heavy rainfall is forecast for a long period of time, which can lead to flooding, overflowing areas and landslides. The storm center reports.

The situation remains tense. Communities and residents are required to prepare for possible further extreme weather events. The severe weather center's forecasts, which are updated around the clock by experienced meteorologists, are of utmost importance for many areas of life, such as the construction industry, agriculture and transport.
