Wartburgkreis Music School: Future plan with more students and offers!

The Wartburg District Music School is facing exciting changes! With a current future concept, the offering is to be expanded significantly in the coming school years. The goal is to increase the number of students by ten percent. District Administrator Michael Brodführer (CDU) presented this ambitious plan to the district council in order to further promote musical education in the region. Cooperation with schools should also be intensified so that the music school becomes more present and can attract new students. In southern Thuringia reports that the music school wants to become a real flagship for the Wartburg district.

The changes are sprouting like mushrooms, because since August 1st the Eisenach music school has been part of the “Johann Sebastian Bach” Wartburgkreis music school. A change of provider, which took around six months of preparation, does not have any impact on school operations. “We are specifically expanding the cultural landscape in the Wartburg district,” emphasizes District Administrator Dr. Michael Brodführer in an article by Wartburg district. The district is investing in the renovation of the cityscape-defining building on Kurstrasse, with particular attention to be paid to roof and fire protection issues - the renovation costs amount to around 900,000 euros.

The variety of offers

Another highlight is the future planning of new musical offerings! The music school intends to introduce small projects in schools as well as offering wind and string classes. Currently, around 876 hours per week are taught by 30 full-time teachers and 18 former freelancers. The broad spectrum ranges from instrumental and singing lessons to dance lessons and cultural events. This means that the music school is positioning itself as the first in Thuringia to employ fully paid staff - a real move for the stability of the teachers! The MIZ gives the figures: Around 1,200 active students are currently learning the musical craft, while over 230 interested parties are on waiting lists.

There were 162 cancellations for annual administration this school year, with only 14 due to new fees. This speaks for the great interest and popularity of the courses on offer - and according to the VdM, the number of students at the music school overall is on an upward trend, even in a nationwide context, despite a decline in direct comparison to 2019.

Overall, the Wartburg District Music School is on a promising path to getting both young people and adults excited about music. The commitment of the community and the quality of the offerings will sustainably strengthen the region and enrich the cultural scene.
