Thuringian of the Month: Cornelia Schomburg is committed to skiing!
In a celebratory ceremony on November 7th, the committed Cornelia Schomburg was honored as “Thuringian of the Month”. This honor took place as part of the big evening competition on the four ski jumps of the “Alte Ruhl” facility and was suggested by her clubmate Claudia Beugel. Schomburg has made a name for herself in the world of skiing, and her dedication to the sport and volunteer work are remarkable.
Cornelia Schomburg began discovering her love of skiing at TSG Ruhla at the tender age of 5. She didn't think her passion for sport was just for herself, as even as a teenager she showed a great interest in numbers and helped evaluate competitions. Today she is not only an active member, but also works as a referee at competitions in Thuringia and beyond. This even includes highlights such as the German Championships as well as international competitions such as the Continental Cup and the FIS Youth Cup, where she demonstrates her skills.
Volunteering
Schomburg's involvement is not limited to competition monitoring. She is also heavily involved in volunteer work in winter sports, especially mat jumping and roller ski runs. Three years ago she also took on responsibility for the “Bermerhütte”, a popular destination for excursions by a club, where she organizes the voluntary hut services and takes care of the supply of necessary materials.
As part of the honor, Schomburg received prize money of 500 euros, which she plans to use to support children's skiing activities. This decision shows how important young talent is to her in skiing and what role volunteering plays in the further development of young talents. The prize was awarded as part of the “Thuringian of the Month” campaign, which was launched in 1994 by MDR THÜRINGEN and the Thuringian Volunteer Foundation to honor volunteer commitment.
Honor in sports
A special highlight in Thuringian sport is the annual honorary event “Thank You for Volunteering”, which is held on International Volunteer Day and honors around 60,000 volunteers. This event took place for the last time on December 2nd, 2024 in the Augustinian monastery in Erfurt. Thirty special people were also honored here for their responsibility as referees, trainers and organizers, an initiative that underlines the strength of volunteerism in Thuringia. Thüringen.de highlights the central role of volunteerism in the success of sport.
In addition, the Thuringian Sports Youth is committed to further strengthening volunteerism in the region and bringing excellent projects into the spotlight. Attention is paid to the diversity and creativity of the sports clubs and their commitment to society. It's a great opportunity to promote and promote talent and role models in the unsung hero world of sport.
In conclusion, one can say that Cornelia Schomburg, with her passion and commitment, is a wonderful example of great commitment to the community and to sport. Their commitment is not only recognized now, but will also be an inspiration for many future generations in Thuringian sport.
