Hoyerswerda, Deutschland - The region has a lot to offer, and if you want something exciting at the weekend, you are exactly right here. This interesting tour in the former opencast mine starts with an opening on June 21, 2025 and offers stories of Sorbian ghosts, sheep and plants over a length of 42 kilometers. Ten listening stations with QR codes ensure that visitors can immerse themselves even more intensively in the stories. The audios are also available for download at Research practice .
But that's not all: the exhibition “Sonderhausen” will be shown at the Schlossmuseum in Sondershausen from June 2, 2025 to January 18, 2026. On the occasion of the 900th birthday of the city of Sondershausen, this exciting show tells stories of artists, historical personalities as well as children and adolescents. The doors are open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. - the last admission is at 4:30 p.m. and admission is free.
celebrations for the city anniversary
Sondershausen itself celebrates a large city anniversary by June 9, 2025 and presents a diverse event program. The start was on June 2 in the castle museum with the aforementioned anniversary exhibition. A highlight for music lovers will be the festival weekend in which Adel Tawil and Alex Christensen appear. In addition, numerous activities are offered from June 3 to June 9th, including a festival service in the Trinitatismenkirche, an anniversary run for all ages and a senior breakfast with a program and lecture on the marketplace.
The themed miles that come into play at the celebrations are also particularly exciting. Here, the city's history on the market square takes the focus, while the blue light mile in the Schwanparkplatz is worth seeing. The most popular locations for visitors are the dealer mile in the main street, the residence mile in the castle courtyard and a children's, youth, club and sports mile on the theater meadow. An open-air cinema invites you to relax on June 8, and on the same day a parade from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. will also bring city history to life with over 80 illustrations.
cultural enrichment
As part of the celebrations, a literary project is also presented that presents the result of "Sondershausen writes". This initiative ensures that the tradition of city history is recorded in writing. A commemorative publication with city chronicle and program is also printed, and especially for collectors, the exclusive commemoration medal and a limited anniversary letter mark are worthwhile memory.
For everyone who is looking for a captivating reading, the book "Floating Loads" by Annett Gröschner is recommended. This work illuminates the experiences of the flower binder and crane driver Hanna Krause during moving times in the 20th century and is linked to the exhibition "Indescribable female. Women's pictures in the GDR" in the Brandenburg State Museum for Modern Art, which runs until August 10, 2025.
