Rapid soap boxes chased through Kapellendorf - a festival full of fun!

The excitement in Kapellendorf is great: As part of this year's village festival, there is a soap box race that will shake the narrow streets of the Weimar country. Around a dozen participants from the municipality have measured each other in three age categories. The spectators are enthusiastic and follow the spectacle on Saturday morning with shining eyes.

The soap boxes themselves are colorful and creative, including the "wave rider", the "Kolossos Roland" and the "racing box Rosi". Many of the little speedsters come from the passion of the Kapellendorfer, who make these traditional companions with a lot of skill and imagination. Soap boxes are four -wheeled, driveless small vehicles that absorb the speed on sloping routes - in Germany you can reach up to 60 km/h.

a touch of tradition

This event is not only fun for the whole family, it also marks the revival of an old tradition that has been forgotten for years. The residents around the imposing Wasserburg Kapellendorf have campaigned for the organization of the race. The Wasserburg, an impressive building, has an eventful history in the region. Originally acquired as a protective building from the city of Erfurt in 1348, it later became known as "Raubritterburg" under the notorious Apel Vitztum von Roßla.

Apel, who once acted as a robber knight, made the castle a center of its stomach at the time. Today it is one of the best preserved castle complexes in Thuringia and attracts many visitors thanks to its historical charm. But while the castle serves as a backdrop, the soap boxing children and adolescents pursue their passion. The Wasserburg itself is part of a remarkable architectural heritage and offers a perfect view of the action.

Fantastic speeds and helping hands

soap box races have a long history in Germany and have been taking place since 1904. But the tranquil trips with the self -made "children's automobiles" are not only a challenge for the participants. Security is at the top - protective helmets and functioning brakes are a must. Kapellendorf and his village festival are the ideal way to combine this tradition with modern fun.

This is how the soap box race not only attracts the residents of Kapellendorf, but also numerous guests who do not want to miss the hustle and bustle. The exchange among the villagers and the anticipation for exciting trips and funny falls make this day a special experience for everyone.
