Hundreds of animals are looking for a home: This is how the animal protection association helps!
A small glimmer of hope for many animals in Tornow: Last weekend, a dedicated girl and her mother adopted two cats from the Oberhavel animal protection association. The facility is not just a simple animal shelter, but has been an important rescue center for stranded or unwanted pets for over 15 years. There are currently around 130 animals, including 80 cats, 40 dogs, 10 ring-necked parakeets and 2 rabbits, waiting for a new home. But the brokerage often doesn't run as quickly as the operators would like.
The animals cannot simply be taken with you. There are formalities and interviews that potential adopters must go through. The animal welfare association's dedicated employees always strive to find the best matches, which can sometimes take a little time. One family from Berlin in particular has already shown interest in a Pomeranian dog that is still waiting for the right place.
Summer festival as a showcase for the animals
A highlight of the year is the animal protection association's summer festival, which offers space for animal placement, sponsorship advertising and sponsorship acquisition. Hundreds of people attended the event, which was particularly characterized by the charm of young cats and tomcats. Guests at the festival not only bring their love for animals, but also donations in kind, which are essential for financing the animal shelter. For example, an eternal supporter, Anneliese Schilling, a lady over 80 years old, regularly donates to the association and thus does her part to ensure that the animals can be cared for.
Unfortunately, how many animals have to stay in the animal shelter for a longer period of time is often an uncertain matter. The longer the animals stay there, the more difficult it becomes to find them. That's why every support is so important. The animal shelter in Tornow calls for people to get involved, be it through adoption, donations or volunteer work.
Voluntary care and support
Speaking of commitment: Tierschutz Berlin is still looking for qualified foster homes for animals with a high need for care. Listed dogs, hospice animals, orphaned children and sick animals in particular urgently need a loving home. Anyone interested can contact Tierschutz Berlin using a questionnaire. Foster homes receive food, supplies and, if necessary, medication for hospice animals who need a quiet and secure living environment.
The requirements for a foster home are clearly defined: Among other things, you should have a valid tetanus vaccination and your pets should have current vaccination protection. It is also important to allow for spatial separation from your own animals in the first few days. Cat foster homes have additional requirements, such as securing windows and balconies to avoid potential dangers. Animal protection Berlin informed would be happy to tell you more about the details and ways to get active.
