Vaccination chaos in Oberhavel: Citizens complain about a lack of corona vaccine!

The corona vaccination campaign remains a hotly debated topic in Germany, and in Oberhavel the citizens' dissatisfaction with the organization of the vaccinations is clearly noticeable. Corona vaccinations are currently being loudly advertised in various media, but some things are not going well. The case of Manfred Wilde from Oranienburg is just one example of many. He wanted to get vaccinated, but was referred to the health department, which only offers vaccinations on Fridays. And that is problematic because the next vaccination date in Oranienburg falls on November 7th - a public holiday on which vaccinations cannot be given. This drove citizens into despair.

Wilde describes that even his family doctor did not have enough of the vaccine. His experience is shared by Gisela Steftin from Baumgarten, who also states that she felt deceived by the vaccination offers. Despite these complaints, the Oranienburg Health Department declares that there is no shortage of corona vaccine and points out that the vaccine is obtained from pharmacies.

Vaccination offer and challenges

The uncertainties surrounding vaccine availability are not the only problems. The health authorities in Oberhavel are currently planning to offer their own vaccinations from November, but a specific start date is still pending. Citizens are currently being asked to register with the OPR health department for a free corona vaccination. This situation arises in the context of a Germany-wide vaccination campaign, which continues to be accompanied by questions about vaccination effectiveness.

The Robert Koch Institute recently stated that as the vaccination rate increases, the number of sick people vaccinated will also increase. However, this does not mean that the vaccines are ineffective. While COVID-19 vaccinations are effective, they are not 100% effective. Therefore, vaccinated people can also become ill, especially in times of high infection rates. This finding, confirmed by experts, shows how important it remains to be willing to vaccinate in order to avoid serious illnesses.

Current vaccination statistics

The numbers prove the urgency. According to the latest data from the Robert Koch Institute's digital vaccination rate monitoring, more than 179 million vaccinations have been carried out in Germany so far. The vaccination rate for at least one vaccination is 78.0%, while 76.4% of the population has basic immunization. Booster vaccinations are also being offered, which shows that the vaccination campaign remains very popular.

  • Erstimpfungen: 64.947.124
  • Zweitimpfungen: 63.578.532
  • Erste Boosterimpfungen: 52.209.788 (62,7% der Bevölkerung)
  • Zweite Boosterimpfungen: 13.479.513 (16,2% der Bevölkerung)

Despite these successful statistics, there are always questions about the vaccination offers and the availability of the vaccine. The health authorities' deliberations in Oberhavel showed that coordination between vaccination centers, doctors' practices and pharmacies needs to be better organized.

The citizens of Oberhavel can only hope that the situation will improve soon. The experience of people like Manfred Wilde and Gisela Steftin clearly shows that there is a need for action to further promote willingness to vaccinate and the necessary protection against COVID-19. The discussion about vaccination offers will continue to concern us, while the next step to improve the vaccination strategy will hopefully not be long in coming.
