Last weekend, several fires occupied the fire brigades and the police in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district. On Saturday, two smaller fires broke out in the area around Calau and Kemmen, while on Sunday a violent forest fire kept emergency services on tenterhooks for more than an hour. The unclear cause leaves room for speculation, but it turns out that the forest fire season in Brandenburg always poses major challenges for the emergency services.
Statistics show that Brandenburg recorded a total of 251 forest fires in 2023, which destroyed over 765 hectares of forest area, reports RBB24. This is a significant improvement compared to last year, but showed that the region, with its highly flammable pine forests, remains vulnerable to such incidents.

The police are not only keeping an eye on the fires, but also other incidents in the area. In Calau, a field fire was reported on the local road between Säritz and Calau, where around 300 square meters were in flames. The estimated damage here is 500 euros.
Surprisingly, other crimes are also reported. An e-scooter was stolen in Vetschau and the police have already launched an international search. Another e-scooter in Senftenberg also fell victim to a thief. In another incident, a 37-year-old driver of a MERCEDES was caught with a blood alcohol level of 1.45 during a traffic stop, which led to his driver's license being immediately confiscated.
