Dreame is planning luxury electric cars in Brandenburg – enthusiasm or skepticism?

The electric car business is becoming more and more exciting, and now the Chinese company Dreame is getting involved. The manufacturer, which was originally known for its vacuum robots and household appliances, is planning to enter electric car production in Germany. They have set their sights on Brandenburg, in the immediate vicinity of the Tesla gigafactory, which not only offers a top-class neighbor but also a sophisticated infrastructure.

Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Suzhou near Shanghai, Dreame has expanded significantly in recent years. With the founding of the subsidiary Dreame Auto in August 2024, the course was set for luxury electric cars. Mercury reports that the first models will come onto the market in 2027 - a concept vehicle comparable to the Bugatti Chiron and another model similar to the luxurious Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The pricing is not without its price: it ranges between 35,000 and 76,000 euros.

The big plan for Brandenburg

As the daily news reports, the state government of Brandenburg has already confirmed contacts with Dreame. Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke not only confirmed discussions about a possible location of the plant, but also emphasized how important calm and careful preparation is in this process. So far, almost 1,000 research and production employees have already been recruited, who are looking forward to being involved in the production of these electric cars.

The Brandenburg location could be advantageous not only because of its proximity to the Tesla gigafactory. The existing supply chain in the region and reduced logistics costs provide further incentives for Dreame to choose this location. The high standards that Germany sets for the automotive industry are another reason why the company is interested in the German market. After all, Germany will not only be producing in the future, but also meeting certain quality standards.

Challenges and criticism

Despite the ambitious plans, there are also critical voices. Industry expert Ferdinand Dudenhöffer expresses skepticism about Dreame's announcements. The competition in the electric car market in China is enormous, and many companies have already failed due to the economic challenges. A citizens' initiative has also raised concerns and pointed out environmental problems that could arise from locating near the Tesla factory. The Brandenburg Ministry of Economic Affairs has not yet commented on the reports about possible business settlements.

An interesting aspect is that the EU Commission's tariffs on electric cars manufactured in China are motivating some companies to set up production in Europe to avoid these costs. Dreame is no exception. The company's intentions are clear - they want to gain a foothold in the European market and get a piece of the pie.

It remains to be seen how Dreame's plans will actually develop and whether the company is actually able to succeed in a very competitive market. The coming months definitely promise to be exciting.
