Demonstration in Luckenwalde: 100 people take a stand against AfD!

There was a lot of activity in Luckenwalde last evening when around 100 people demonstrated against the opening of Steffen Kotré's new AfD constituency office. The protesters gathered on the boulevard about 70 meters from the office opening. The demonstration started at 5:45 p.m., while the official opening of the office took place at 6 p.m. The rally was characterized by banners with slogans such as “Solidarity instead of right-wing agitation”. Representatives of local politics and the district administration gave speeches to protest against the AfD's inhumane policies. The police reported that it was peaceful and confirmed that the volume of those gathered corresponded to the agreements, as maz-online.de reports.

However, there was a commotion when Jan Schenk, a city councilor for the AfD, mingled with the demonstrators. Accusations of racism were raised, which were expressed by city councilor Tom Ritter (Greens), but could not be independently verified.

Growing protest movement against the AfD

The demonstration in Luckenwalde was not an isolated case. Several similar protests had already taken place in the region in February, with a total of over 600 people taking to the streets against xenophobia and the AfD's political aspirations. These include a first demo in Luckenwalde at the end of January and two further protests on February 4th. The organizers, committed citizens without a political background, aim to take a stand against the hatred of the AfD and to highlight the importance of immigrants for the economy and social security, as reported dielinke-teltow-flaeming.de.

The commitment and determination of the demonstrators is part of a larger movement across the country. Across Germany, tens of thousands of people demonstrated against the cooperation of parties, especially the Union, with the AfD, with around 16,000 to 45,000 people taking to the streets in cities like Cologne, according to tagesschau.de.

Bright spots in Luckenwalde

But it's not just protests that dominate the headlines in Luckenwalde. In another matter, the Christmas lights in the city center are at risk because an amount of 6,000 euros is missing. The city has therefore launched an appeal for donations to citizens and companies to ensure festive lights during the Christmas season. Donation boxes are now available in various shops and those responsible are hoping for support from the public by November 21st.

Economic developments and innovations

While the local issues are complex, there is also positive news from MTU in Ludwigsfelde. The company has raised its profit expectations for the coming year and plans to create 40 additional jobs with a new workshop. The approximately 1,200 employees on site can look forward to the future, especially under the new management of Managing Director Patrick Biebel.

Completely different topics are currently being discussed in research into the treatment of depression. Under the direction of Anne Petzold at the European Neuroscience Institute in Göttingen, targeted research is being conducted into the role of the hormone leptin. A grant of two million euros will allow new studies to be carried out to visualize nerve cell activity and could ultimately improve the well-being of many people.

Overall, it can be seen that the Luckenwalde region is lively and is active in both political and economic matters, offering both challenges and rays of hope.
