Lebenshilfe Uckermark: 35 years of diversity and community in Templin

Templin, Deutschland - With a colorful festival, Lebenshilfe Uckermark e. V. celebrated its 35th anniversary on June 18, 2025. Under the motto "Diversity", numerous members, relatives, clients, supervisors and friends gathered on the site in Templin. The celebrations were musically accompanied by a music group from the "Haus Templin" and the Zumba kids from SV Alemania Templin, which made the event a successful and happy event.

The location at Platafenstrasse 19 is a place where diverse care offers are provided for mentally restricted people. In addition to assisted individual living, there are also living groups where residents can live in a family environment. Hartmut Hampel, the head of open aid, underlined the individualized support during the celebration, which will be given to all residents

a home for many

In the "House Templin", 24 people currently live in the inpatient living area. Most residents use the offers of the Stephanus workshops, which are also located in Templin. Here a valuable contribution to integration into the world of work is made. Each resident has access to their own room with a terrace, while the common rooms invite you to come together socially, be it in the group kitchen or in the spacious garden.

The living groups rely on a family -like coexistence. As Torsten Kipping, who has headed the residence since 2018, four employees are permanent contacts for eight people each with a need for help, which promotes a trusting relationship. "Everyone is welcome here and can find their place," he emphasizes.

joint activities and inclusion

There are also many leisure activities: from cooking clubs to sports and dance events to monthly bike tours and travel. This not only benefits the residents, but is also supported by the community. For example, Lebenshilfe Uckermark has set a sign of inclusion at various events such as this year's company run in Angermünde with 96 participants - people with and without impairment moved together, which is a strong symbol of the community.

Over 20 % of all participants in this event came from Lebenshilfe. A life aid festival also took place on May 17, which was very well received despite rainy weather. Here, among other things, visitors could make pearl bracelets or enjoy cotton candy.

The way to accessibility

An important topic for life aid is also accessibility in everyday life. Many people with intellectual disabilities still have difficulty using local public transport offers. According to current provisions, which should be implemented by January 1, 2022, accessibility is one of the basic requirements of public transport. But the goal of reaching a comprehensive accessibility by 2026 is not yet in sight. Lebenshilfe.de reports that the Federal Government is working to reduce legal exceptions to ensure the mobility of all people.

Despite all the challenges, Lebenshilfe Uckermark sees the future optimistic. This continues to work on a common vision: an inclusive society in which diversity is not only accepted, but estimated. The past 35 years have only been a start.
