Enjoy the sun, protect your skin: How to reduce your risk of skin cancer!

Summer is really getting going and for many people in Cologne that means: off to the sun! But not all that glitters is gold - experts warn against excessive sun exposure, which can significantly increase the risk of skin cancer. Every year around 300,000 people in Germany develop skin cancer, as reported by the Brandenburg State Medical Association. That's why it's even more important to protect yourself from UV radiation.

How do you protect yourself properly? Dr. med. Silke Thies from Asklepios Klinikum Uckermark points out that sufficient sun protection is essential. It is recommended to use products with an SPF of 30 or more and reapply every two hours, especially after sweating or bathing. In addition, you should avoid direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and seek shady places.

Rules for sunbathing

A light health check to combat skin cancer can be easily integrated into everyday life. Regular skin exams are important; they only take a few minutes and can potentially save lives. Here in Cologne, practices and clinics have the opportunity to offer appropriate skin checks. The appeal from the State Medical Association and the clinics is unmistakable: take the sun seriously and take protective measures.

Detecting skin changes early can be crucial to preventing them from getting worse. The number of new infections with skin cancer is prompting doctors to increasingly educate the population about this important protection. It currently looks as if Cologne residents are more attracted to the sun than ever this summer.

Technological innovations in everyday life

Especially these days, there are numerous tools that make our lives easier. A new Python package and project manager called “uv,” written in the Rust programming language, promises up to 100x faster installation of software dependencies compared to older methods like pip. “uv” not only speeds up the installation process, but also replaces multiple tools and provides comprehensive project management for developers. These developments primarily support the increasing number of software projects and their management.

Health is everything – even when it comes to food

Complemented by the best weather, healthy eating is also a topic that contributes to precaution. Many people who often suffer from heartburn should take special care because they may have reflux disease. The most common triggers include large meals, obesity and certain foods such as citrus fruits or spicy foods. A small change in diet can often help alleviate the symptoms. However, if the symptoms occur regularly, it is advisable to seek medical advice, as in the long term untreated reflux disease can lead to serious complications.

The sun, a new project management tool and healthy eating - there is always something to consider and learn to improve both health and quality of life. Use the sun wisely, stay healthy and use technology to your advantage!
