Construction work and Bubi the budgie: Wismar in news fever!
In northwest Mecklenburg, a recent experience caused a stir: a small budgie, affectionately known as “Bubi,” was rescued from a sewer pipe. Two attentive girls discovered the feathered friend and alerted the professional fire department's animal rescue team, who quickly freed him and brought him food and water. Bubi was then taken to the Dorf Mecklenburg animal shelter, where he may be picked up by his owner.
But it's not just the feathered friend that brings momentum to the region. In the catering and hairdressing trades, employees in northwest Mecklenburg earn tips of up to 1,000 euros per month. This is because hourly rates are often just above the minimum wage and full-time positions are few and far between. While some professional groups, such as cleaners or saleswomen, work in similar low-wage sectors, they are often left without the opportunity to receive tips. The situation highlights how valuable tips are in these industries to supplement income.
Tipping in the craft industry
A look at the craft industry shows that tips are not just a gesture of appreciation, but can also vary in amount and frequency. For smaller orders that take between one and four hours, a tip of 5 to 20 euros is common. The craftsman's fast and high-quality work is rewarded here. For projects lasting several days, the tip per craftsman is between 5 and 10 euros per day, while for more extensive work it can be up to 50 euros, which recognizes the craftsman's commitment. In addition, in emergencies or when working at unusual times, the tip can even reach twice as much, as reported during a holiday job to repair a burst pipe heldenjobs.com.
There is also an important traffic measure in the region: construction work on the A 20 between Neukloster and Kröpelin will begin on July 28th. This busy highway is of central importance not only for commuters, but also for vacationers. The first construction phase will affect the line towards Lübeck by December, followed by further work that will last until July next year.
Celebratory moments in Wismar
July 18th was also a special day for the 62 high school graduates from the Brüder-Scholl-Gymnasium in Wismar, who received their certificates. Hannah Dellwall was able to enjoy the best average of 1.0, closely followed by Lennart Hilse (1.1) and Paula Schnez (1.2). All three already have plans to pursue their careers at various universities in the areas of law, business law and business information technology.
In addition, the insolvent Mecklenburg nursing service in Dalberg has experienced a positive turn: The company Comtact from Schwerin has completed the takeover and is now expanding the services it offers to include caretaker services, garden maintenance and glass cleaning.
Finally, a short but remarkable event also made headlines: referee Bastian Dankert was awarded a medal by Donald Trump. This happened after the Club World Cup final in New York, where Dankert worked as a video assistant. He brought the medal with him to a talk at the “Ostwind” restaurant in Boltenhagen and proudly presented the local bosses with a jersey with autographs from various referees.
Our region is not only characterized by remarkable animal deeds, but also by solidarity in the world of work and the celebration of the educational success of countless young people. Anyone who works in the catering industry or in the trades knows how important it is to experience appreciation in the form of tips, while at the same time many have to prepare for the construction work on the A 20.
