EWE Baskets Oldenburg in a double pack: test games against Hamburg and Rostock!
Preparations for the new basketball season are in full swing and the EWE Baskets Oldenburg are right in the middle of it. After their return from the training camp in Zlatibor, Serbia, the Baskets will be challenged on Saturday at 6 p.m. when they play a public test match against Veolia Towers Hamburg. The season opening at the ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES will follow on Sunday, scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
The EWE Baskets coach, Predrag Krunic, sees these encounters as an important opportunity to gain insight into the team's current form. The team has already successfully completed three of four test games in preparation - including an exciting 90:84 win against the Bakken Bears from Denmark and a 90:77 against the Löwen Braunschweig - but suffered a defeat against FMP Belgrade (57:78). However, the Baskets are feeling the strain of the last few games and the return journey.
Personnel situation and injury updates
Chris Clemons will not play in the game against Hamburg because he felt a tight thigh during training camp. However, after detailed examinations, it was determined that there was no injury and he will be able to return to training soon. A final decision about his appearance on Sunday in Rostock is still pending.
Another setback affects Jan Niklas Wimberg, who broke the ring finger of his left hand and will be out for several months. Meanwhile, players like Kenny Ogbe remain important pillars in the Hamburg squad, while Niklas Wimberg will most likely not be available not only in this but also in future games.
The opponents in flight
The Hamburg team is also not without challenges as they return from their training camp in Kääriku, Estonia. The Towers have so far played three preparatory games with a record of 2:1, including against Eisbären Bremerhaven and Tartu Ülikool. The Rostock Seawolves, on the other hand, won against Baskets Wolmirstedt and were only narrowly defeated by King Stettin.
The Rostock Seawolves have a lot of experience in their ranks, with new additions like Owen Klassen and DeAndre Lansdowne, while players like Dominic Lockhart and Robin Amaize are missing due to injuries and are therefore unavailable for action. These job losses could make the difference in the moments that matter.
Looking into the future
Further test games are already planned for the EWE Baskets Oldenburg, including the big Baskets Day on September 14th, where the new team will be presented. Over 4,900 tickets have already been sold for the event - an indication that fans are eagerly awaiting the new season. Overall, it is clear that the EWE Baskets are in good shape in preparation, while their competitors have to overcome even greater challenges. It remains to be seen how these test matches will shape the teams' form.
All in all, the coming days in Hamburg and Rostock are crucial for the EWE Baskets to optimally prepare for the new season and to identify the areas that still need to be improved in good time. The test matches promise exciting entertainment and could already be a first sign of the upcoming challenges in the Bundesliga.
