Traffic chaos overwhelms Warnemünde Week: Visitors flock in droves!

Warnemünde Week is in full swing and is attracting thousands of visitors to the Baltic Sea. On Saturday, July 5th, the event was ceremoniously opened with the traditional beer keg tapping. But the large number of visitors caused massive traffic chaos in Warnemünde Baltic Sea newspaper reported. The “Westmole” car park was already full to capacity early in the morning. The underground car parks at the Hotel “Neptun” and in the Kurhaus were also largely full, which made travel difficult for many guests.

Anyone who chose to take the train also had to be patient, as the trains were very full in the morning. Among the visitors was Manuel Griese, a 31-year-old all-rounder from Dortmund who has been loyal to Warnemünder Woche for many years and also meets his friends here.

Parade and cultural highlights

The highlight of the first day of the festival was the 22nd “Niege Ümgang”, which began at 10 a.m. on Seestrasse. Countless people took part, including members of the sea rescue teams and numerous local clubs. The impressive parade was led by the Neuseddin e.V. marching band from Brandenburg. A family from Saxony, who is spending their vacation in Kühlungsborn, also made a detour to Warnemünde. Jens Berger, the father of the family, was enthusiastic: “I was last here as a child and I think the event is really nice.”

In addition to the parade, the program for the first few days also includes many musical performances and dance performances. The Neuseddin marching band started the day at 8:00 a.m., followed by a concert by the Monday choir Marielyst from Denmark, which took place at 1:00 p.m. in the Kurhausgarten. In addition, dance enthusiasts were not left out, with offers for modern dances at the teapot.

A feast for all senses

The Warnemünde Week is not only very popular because of its sporting events, which also include the 29th Beach Handball Days. Rather, it is known as the largest sailing event in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Fans of all ages will get their money's worth here, with a comprehensive program ranging from concerts to children's entertainment.

There is still a lot on offer for the coming days: The Program overview shows a variety of events that will last until July 13th. Highlights include the festive opening concert by the St. Afra Meißen gospel choir in the Warnemünde Church as well as other exciting dance courses and live concerts in the Kurhausgarten.

The Warnemünde Week is an invitation to everyone to experience the maritime flair and the sociable atmosphere of the region. Even if getting there is sometimes a challenge, the visit is always worth it. The passion for sailing and the joy of celebrating together are the heart of this traditional festival.
