Katrin Sass: Back in Schwerin – A heart beats for home!
“Home is where the water is.” Katrin Sass, the well-known actress from Schwerin, has decided to return to her hometown after years in the capital Berlin. This move took place in autumn 2024, and how Web.de reports, it was an emotional experience for the 69-year-old. During her appearance on the MDR show “Riverboat,” she explained that she struggled with the idea of returning for a long time. At first she felt very strange in her old homeland, but the acting legend has now settled in well.
Katrin Sass, who achieved great fame in 1981 with the film “Bürgschaft für ein Jahr” and later with “Good Bye, Lenin” (2003), has a deep connection to Schwerin. “I love the water,” she enthuses and even sleeps in a waterbed. From her new home she enjoys the view of Lake Schwerin, which gives her daily joy. It is overwhelming to return to her childhood room and think about the past. Her family, including relatives like her brother and cousin, live nearby and support her, especially when she encountered problems while moving, such as when the moving truck got stuck in front of the new apartment.
An honorary award for an acting legend
In September, Katrin Sass was awarded an honorary prize at the Golden Henne, an event that celebrated its 31st anniversary in 2023, as the MDR reported. The jury honored her as an “acting legend” for her life’s work. The gala took place in the HALLE:EINS of the Leipzig Trade Fair in front of around 4,500 spectators and was moderated by Kai Pflaume and Florian Silbereisen. Numerous stars such as Sarah Connor and Ronan Keating appeared alongside her, making the event a huge celebration of entertainment.
The Golden Hen itself is an important event in the German entertainment landscape and this year it was extensively supported by MDR, with live reports and multimedia programs. It is not only an opportunity to celebrate the greats of the entertainment industry, but also a look back at the achievements of the last three decades. Katrin Sass was one of the highlights of this gala.
The path to a new chapter
Her decision to return home marks a new phase of life for the Schwerin native. After an impressive career in film and television, which made her an icon in the GDR and beyond, she now enjoys the peace and charm of her old, familiar surroundings. “It wasn’t easy getting used to it again,” she admits. But with the support of her neighbors and family, she overcame the challenges.
In a self-reflective moment, she describes her emotions when she looks into her former childhood room. It's like a journey through time that is both pleasant and overwhelming. With a clear view of her past and a renewed love for her homeland, Katrin Sass is now living the life she wants and celebrating her roots with joy and gratitude.
Returning home touched not only Katrin Sass, but also many of her fans who have accompanied her on her artistic journey over the years.
