New theater tent in Schwerin: culture in the heart of the city!
The newly erected theater tent at the Küchengarten in Schwerin will soon become the center of an exciting cultural time. General Director Wegner attaches great importance to close coordination with the residents in order to ensure harmonious coexistence. When aligning the tent, the original arrangement was adjusted and the outside lighting was carefully planned so that it does not shine into children's rooms. To accommodate residents, the performances end at 10 p.m. at the latest. This was decided in close consultation with the residents in order to reduce noise nuisance to a minimum. There were also challenges in rebuilding after the Federal Garden Show, as there were no connections for electricity, water or sewage; these had to be recreated.
The rent for the theater tent is 26,000 euros per month and the tent is expected to remain up for 14 months. During this time, not only operettas are presented, but other cultural events also take place. It is important to the organizers that all visitors have access to the offers. The theater seats in the tent are step-free and wheelchair spaces are available at ground level. Accompanying persons can sit comfortably in the front row. These measures are part of the comprehensive accessibility that is also guaranteed in the catering and sanitary facilities.
Various parking options
The theater tent will be filled with life, starting with the premiere of Franz Lehár's “The Merry Widow” on June 27, 2025. A total of 11 performances are planned until August 3, 2025. Six productions are planned for the following 2025/2026 season, including a Christmas fairy tale. In addition to operettas, the audience can also expect performances by the drama and ballet ensemble as well as concerts by the Mecklenburg State Orchestra. The site is an easy walk of around 10 minutes from the Big House and the organizers aim to make the visit as pleasant as possible. With a total area of 2,200 m², the theater tent offers space for around 500 guests. The main tent area is 17 meters high and features a stage that matches the portal width of the Big House. In order to make the visit optimal, the arrivals and departures were coordinated with the start and end of the performances. The times have been set to take into account the needs of local residents. However, there are solutions for threshold fears and barriers. The Federal Office for Accessibility recommends ensuring accessibility for all participants at events. The theater tent meets this requirement and ensures that everyone, including people with disabilities, can have access to the cultural offerings. The theater tent will certainly become a valued part of Schwerin's cultural scene and offers something for everyone - from sophisticated operettas to family fairy tale evenings. Let's look forward to an exciting time full of art and culture!Cultural highlight
