Volunteer hospice work: meeting afternoon in Ribnitz-Damgarten!
On October 18, 2025, a special event dedicated to hospice work will take place in Ribnitz-Damgarten. The Ribnitz-Damgarten hospice association invites everyone interested to the city's meeting center to discuss essential issues in life together in a thoughtful setting. The occasion is the annually celebrated World Hospice Day, which this year has the motto “Hospice – Home for All”. Loud NDR The event begins at 2 p.m., with a keynote speech entitled “What counts is the life lived” kicking things off and facilitating the exchange between the guests.
This year, World Hospice Day, which is always celebrated on the second Saturday in October, aims to emphasize solidarity and diversity within the hospice movement. DHPV describes that the hospice movement has existed since the 1980s and supports those who are seriously ill or who accompany the dying. Regardless of nationality, religion or sexual orientation, respectful treatment takes place here. The focus of this year's campaign is to support refugees, while also promoting a hospice welcoming culture.
Local commitment
The Ribnitz-Damgarten hospice association is a living part of this movement. With around 150 members and 50 committed volunteers, around 100 people and their families are supported every year. The commitment also includes mourning cafés in Ribnitz and Barth as well as project weeks in which primary school students learn about dealing with loss and grief. The initiator of the meeting afternoon is Andrea Wagner, who emphasizes the importance of the topic and encourages people to start talking.
In total, over 400 services and facilities across the country took part in World Hospice Day 2025 events, ranging from open days to readings and concerts. How SZBZ reported, this year there was also widespread coverage of the various campaigns, which could reach over 77 million people.
This lively participation in hospice events shows how important it is to talk about the topics of dying, loss and grief and to be attentive to the needs of those affected. World Hospice Day not only offers a platform for important exchange, but also sets a sign of solidarity and togetherness in our society.
