Wolgast, Deutschland - On July 11, 2025, the Peene shipyard in Wolgast opened another chapter in Germany's maritime history. The second of three new customsships, equipped with the latest technology and an environmentally friendly LNG drive, was ceremoniously handed over to the General Customs Directorate. With a length of around 55 meters, the ship is used in the Baltic Sea in order to monitor and ensure that the cross -border traffic is observed and ensure that all rules and guidelines are observed.

Each assignment can be carried out with a crew of eight members who are optimally prepared for the tasks. The first customs ship was successfully convicted in March, which underlines the efficiency and commitment of the Peene-Werft. The construction of the third and last ship is currently in full corridor.
a focus on sustainability and security
The new customs ships attach great importance to sustainability. They are part of the Federal Government's mobility and fuel strategy, which aims to promote the use of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) as an environmentally friendly fuel in official shipping. Harald Jaekel, Managing Director of the Peene-Werft, emphasizes the importance of this project for the shipyard and the technical know-how of the team, while project manager André Schönrock emphasizes the central role of these ships to ensure maritime security. These high-sea-like aluminum ships not only offer a modern long-term solution, but also contribute to reducing the environmental impact of shipping.
The Peene-Werft impressively demonstrated its competence in the construction of special ships in December 2021. The burning start for the first ship took place on November 15, 2022. With the delivery of the second customsship and the upcoming end of the third ship, the shipyard is a powerful partner for modern maritime requirements.
Sustainability, security and efficiency are therefore the focus of this impressive ship fleet, which is not only of crucial importance for customs monitoring, but also makes a significant contribution to a more environmentally friendly shipping.
