Alarming break-ins in the Vorpommern-Rügen district: 45,000 euros in damage!
In the last few days there has been a sense of alarm in the Vorpommern-Rügen district. A series of break-ins is causing unrest among local restaurant owners and residents. As ndr.de reports, a restaurant on Langen Straße in Saal was hit on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. The crooks escaped with valuables and cash worth around 45,000 euros - a bitter loss for the operator.
But that wasn't the only incident in the region that night. In Wustrow, too, a snack bar on Hafenstrasse had to suffer from uninvited guests. Although there was no loot here, the property damage cost several thousand euros. In addition, an Asian snack bar in Ribnitz-Damgarten was broken into last weekend, with the cash register and some crates of drinks stolen, resulting in a total of around 900 euros in damage.
The search for the perpetrators
The criminal police have initiated an investigation and are calling on the public to report information about the incidents. Given the frequency of such acts, it is even more important for those affected to be vigilant and share suspicious observations.
Such break-ins are not isolated cases. As early as November 2024, twelve break-ins occurred in the basements of apartment buildings in Bergen auf Rügen. In most cases, the perpetrators got into the basement rooms via front doors. Although there was usually no significant damage, the unknown people stole three e-bikes worth a total of 8,700 euros in two break-ins on Friedensstrasse and Parkstrasse. The police, who were also on site to collect evidence in these cases, are still looking for witnesses, as n-tv.de reports.
Burglary statistics and prevention
Statistics show that burglaries in Germany will also increase in 2024. According to polizei-dein-partner.de, there was an increase of 0.8 percent to 78,436 residential burglaries compared to the previous year. This shows that protection against attempted break-ins is becoming increasingly important. It is advisable to take measures such as closing windows, completely locking doors and simulating presence when you are not at home.
All of these incidents make it clear that it is necessary to work together to ensure the safety of our community. The criminal police appeal to all citizens to keep an eye on not only their own four walls, but also the neighborhood. Security concerns us all.
