Post office in Sassnitz remains open under new management!
In Sassnitz, a charming town on Rügen with almost 10,000 inhabitants, an important institution remains alive: the post office in the Rügen Gallery continues under new management. Kerstin Goerke, who will now direct the branch's fortunes, has an experienced hand in the industry. After many years in the business, including operating several gas stations, she now finds herself in this new role. The seamless handover is characterized by the fact that Yvonne Düwell, the daughter of the previous operator, will remain, who has been working here for eleven years and will continue to contribute to the success with her knowledge. Baltic Sea newspaper reports that the mayor of Sassnitz, Leon Kräusche, emphasized the importance of this branch for the community. It demands that the state assume responsibility for basic services, as such institutions function as places of communication and exchange.
The post office will continue to provide many services, even if Postbank is no longer offered. In addition to classic letter and parcel shipping, the branch's features include a variety of services ranging from express shipments to prepaid cell phone top-ups to insured letters. The range is further diversified to meet the needs of customers. Particularly noteworthy are the barrier-free access and the proximity to parking spaces, which make it easier for visitors to visit the branch. Opening timesPost lists the current opening times: Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The branch remains closed on Sundays.
The current situation of the post offices
In the past, Deutsche Post has primarily suggested cooperation with retailers as a solution, as no independent branches have been opened since 2007. Nevertheless, a blunt increase in vending machines is being considered to ensure basic services. The new regulation, which will come into force in 2024, could provide a remedy here, as post offices can be counted as separate locations, although the Federal Network Agency currently still has to agree.
