Drunk driving in Halle: Several drivers caught with over 2 per mille!

On Friday evening, September 6, 2025, there was a diverse fire and police operation in Halle (Saale) that made citizens sit up and take notice. At around 8:45 p.m., residents on Eythstrasse noticed noticeable smoke coming from a residential building. Fortunately, the fire department was able to intervene quickly and bring the situation under control - a wooden spoon on the stove had caused the small fire. There was no major damage and there were no injuries either HallLife reported.

But the situation on the streets was less encouraging. Police reported several incidents of driving under the influence. At 12:30 a.m. the police stopped an e-scooter driver at the Hansering who was driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.84. Just two hours later, at 2:20 a.m., a driver was pulled out of the road on Hanoier Street with an impressive 1.61 per mille. A check at 3:30 a.m. was even more dramatic when a driver was caught behind the wheel on Ludwig-Wucherer-Straße with a blood alcohol level of 2.08. In all of these cases, blood samples were taken and driving licenses confiscated.

Drunk driving: a serious problem

Drunk driving is not a trivial offense. According to that Catalog of fines A blood alcohol level of 0.3 per mille can pose a risk to road traffic, which is punishable by points and fines. The figures from last year are particularly worrying: 102 alcohol-related traffic accidents occurred almost every day in Germany, resulting in 18,900 people being injured or killed VPV summarizes. Most of these accidents involved car drivers, making the roads less safe.

Particularly alarming is the fact that 15,652 alcohol-related accidents resulted in personal injuries. Every day we count almost 52 traffic victims due to alcohol-related accidents. These figures show that despite the downward trend in alcohol-related accidents in recent years, the dangers of drunk driving are still immense.

Local law violations and their consequences

But it wasn't just in Halle that drunk drivers made headlines. In the Saale district, a car driver in Leuna with a blood alcohol level of 0.97 and without a driving license would have made a similar shock report. In Weißenfels, a driver with a blood alcohol level of 0.83 was taken off the road at 1:30 a.m. - here too, a high fine is expected. A clear pattern emerges between the incidents in Halle and neighboring regions: drunk driving is an ongoing problem that has consequences such as driving license revocation and fines.

The police will continue to carry out increased checks to counteract the danger of drunk driving. The message is clear: driving under the influence of alcohol is a crime that endangers not only the driver but also bystanders. The security authorities appeal to everyone to act responsibly and to avoid driving if they have consumed alcohol.
