C license training: Trainers strengthen youth football in Stendal!

There was a lot going on in Stendaler Hölzchen last weekend: the second in-person phase of the C-license training for coaches in youth football took place. This event, which was led by FSA association sports teacher Julius Riemann, attracted trainers from various clubs, including Bismark, Gardelegen, Arminia Magdeburg and many others. Here, we not only delved deeply into the subject of youth football, but also made the commitment of the clubs in Saxony-Anhalt to promoting young talent once again noticeable. The participants dealt intensively with their role as coaches and the challenges that await them in youth football.

The training content covered a variety of important topics. The participants dealt with the perception of the coaching role in the club environment and discussed future challenges in youth football in 2025. In practical coaching activities, they learned how to create targeted scoring chances and what demands must be placed on defense in everyday training and games. The content also increasingly leaned towards the 11-on-11 game system in order to best prepare the coaches for their future work.

Training focuses and many ideas for everyday training

In particular, the basics of the training contract, such as the motor-physical and psychosocial development characteristics of children and young people, were comprehensively covered. The different phases of the game such as offense and defense as well as how to deal with standard situations were also explained. The coaches gained insights into the importance of age-appropriate guidelines to promote the gaming experience to ensure enjoyment of the game from the first to the last minute.

Another central topic was the role of the goalkeeper, which is often crucial for children and young people. In addition to the practical tips on player analysis and the basics of game analysis in adult football, tips on long-term season planning were also given. The training concluded with the presentation of the “10 golden rules for children’s football”, which will serve as important guidelines for the future.

Mental training in youth football

The integration of mental training into training also received attention. Professional mental training, offered by qualified mental trainers, can make a decisive contribution to strengthening young players' self-confidence and recognizing their strengths. Trained according to the guidelines of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), these coaches offer, among other things, independent perspectives that can have a positive impact on the players' emotional stability and performance. We recommend that interested clubs search for certified mental trainers via the platform of the German Federal Association for Sports Mental Training in order to secure independent support for their athletes.

Packed with valuable knowledge and lots of new ideas, we can look forward to the upcoming events. The 2026 event calendar will be published on October 15th, showing the next steps in trainer training and certainly offering interesting insights into future courses. There is a lot of potential for further developments in youth football!
