Huge forest fire in Dessau-Roßlau: 5000 square meters on fire!

On Friday evening, July 10th, there was a tremendous burner in Dessau-Roßlau: A forest fire between Sollnitz and Retzau was reported around 6.30 p.m. A massive smoke development was already visible when the first emergency services arrived. A total of around 5,000 square meters of forest were on fire, which the fire brigade presented with a major challenge. In order to prevent the fire from spreading further, a bar position was set up by two sides. The fire brigade was in use - both the professional fire brigade and several voluntary fire brigades from the area were involved, including Sollnitz, Waldersee, Süd, Kochstedt, Meinsdorf and the fire brigade from Retzau.

A total of 61 firefighters were on site who gradually fought the fire. The water supply was ensured by a hydrant in Sollnitz, whereby the fire trucks drove in the pendulum. At 9:30 p.m., the emergency services were finally able to give the all -clear: After the fire was deleted, the site was properly handed over to the responsible forestry office. The estimated fire damage amounts to around 15,000 euros, which illustrates the violent financial effects of such natural events.

But this fire is not an isolated case. Just a few days ago, another forest fire occurred in the Mosigkauer Heide, in which an area of around 8,000 square meters opened in flames. Here 27 emergency services were deployed, which were able to extinguish the fire within five hours. Here, too, the cause remains unclear. These repeated forest fires are also related to the changing climate conditions. With increasing dry and heat periods that arise as a result of climate change, the risk of the forests increases from such fires. In Germany, forest fires have increased significantly in recent years, and in 2023 over 1,200 hectares of forest area were irretrievably destroyed by fires. In the case of fine dust released, health problems can cause health problems.
