Courageous hike in the Harz Mountains: This is how Günther mastered the climb in a wheelchair!

The Harz, a place full of legends, myths and breathtaking nature, is valued not only by hikers but also by storytellers. Carsten Kiehne, a dedicated fairy tale collector from Bad Suderode, has made it his mission to keep the wondrous tales of this region alive. Together with his partner Manuela Petri, he has published over thirty books in recent years and, despite all the challenges, inspires people of all ages on his guided hikes. As News38 reports, a very special hike took place on March 4th, which thrilled many participants.

On this tour to the old Paracelsus Harz Clinic, Kiehne met an older gentleman named Günther who tirelessly wanted to take part in the hike despite his electric wheelchair. Kiehne initially had concerns about whether Günther would be able to handle the steep climb, but the entire team spontaneously supported him. And sure enough, despite the challenges, they managed to climb the mountain together. In the end, Günther even described the experience as one of the highlights of his hospital stay. “I have done many hikes, but this one will be particularly memorable,” he said.

An unforgettable experience

Kiehne himself found this hike to be one of his most beautiful experiences in over 14 years as a hiking guide. Over 1,500 storytelling events and guided hiking tours show that his commitment is bearing fruit. The Harz, with its thousands of kilometers of signposted hiking trails, attracts not only nature lovers, but also history lovers and spiritual seekers. According to n-ag, support for people with special needs is an essential part of this effort to keep the stories of the Harz alive.

The hike not only offers the opportunity to experience the fascinating nature, but also to immerse yourself in the rich culture and myths of the region. The Harz National Park, which offers numerous hiking destinations such as the Brocken or the famous Teufelsstieg, invites you to linger and explore. True to the motto: Anyone who has a good knack for the mix of culture and nature will be rewarded here.

Strong together

During the tour, the hiking group Kiehne led banded together to support Günther. This special community highlighted the commitment to inclusion and demonstrated how valuable such experiences can be for everyone involved. The Harz ensures that everyone, whether with or without restrictions, can enjoy the landscape and its stories.

As a rule, in addition to its picturesque landscapes, the Harz also offers exciting experiences on the countless hiking trails with fairytale locations and questions about people and nature. The offers on the various guided tours through Harzinfo serve as a good starting point. This diversity makes it clear: the Harz is more than just a hiking destination; it is a place where stories are told and communities are formed.
