Mysterious skull find in the upper resin: Identity 65-year-old confirmed!

In an exciting case that caused excitement last year, the Goslar police inspection has now published new information. In May 2024, hikers found in a forest near Clausthal-Zellerfeld a skeletonized human skull. This led to intensive investigations and thorough searches of the area in the Oberharz, which extended over several days. Despite the great commitment, further skeletal parts remained undetected.

On June 12, 2025, the news finally came that everyone involved in a sigh of relief: The identity of the dead man could be clarified by a DNA comparison. A team of forensic doctors at the Hanover Medical School Secured genetic material from the skull, and the comparison with the databases of the State Criminal Police Office showed that it was a 65-year-old man from Wildemann that has been missing since spring 2023. Despite the clarification, it remains uncertain how the man came to death because the police did not find any evidence of violence and does not assume a crime.
