Bird flu outbreak in Saxony-Anhalt: exclusion zone set up!

The bird flu outbreak has become a serious issue in Saxony-Anhalt. Today the first exclusion zone was set up around an affected company in the Mansfeld-Südharz district. Officials report that Friedrich Loeffler Institute has confirmed a case of bird flu in a company. As a result, 40,000 laying hens from the affected farm had to be culled.

The exclusion zone is designed in two parts, with a radius of three kilometers and another of ten kilometers around the affected area. Strict rules apply in these zones to prevent the virus from spreading. This includes a ban on the sale of poultry meat and eggs from the towns of Berga, Kelbra, Thürungen and Roßla. Owners must also ensure that their animals are protected from wild birds and take special hygiene measures.

Dangers and measures

Bird flu is highly contagious and can quickly become fatal in many species of birds and poultry. If dead or sick birds are discovered, they should not be touched but should be reported to the authorities immediately. A few days ago, the first dead and sick animals were found at the Kelbra reservoir, which made it necessary to set up the exclusion zone. The area at the reservoir is now closed to the public - neither entering nor driving is allowed.

These ongoing precautions are supported by the knowledge that confirmed and suspected cases of bird flu have already occurred in eight other districts and independent cities. In these regions there is also a requirement to keep stables and other special measures for keeping poultry.

Public events restricted

In order to counteract the further spread of the virus, all poultry exhibitions, markets and similar events are currently banned in the district. The authorities strongly recommend that you take safety measures seriously and follow the rules in order to bring the situation under control as quickly as possible.

The safety of people and animals is the top priority in such critical times, and together this challenge can perhaps be better met.
