Car burglar in Bernburg: nursing service van broken into!

In a tranquil town like Bernburg, car break-ins often go unnoticed, but the police urge caution. Last Sunday there was a break-in into a care service car, where unknown perpetrators gained access by breaking the side window of the vehicle. A handbag, a smartphone and a wallet were stolen. The investigation has begun and the police emphasize: “Especially now, no valuables should be left in vehicles, because vehicles are not safes.”

The perpetrators operate quickly and often observe the environment for a long time before striking. This warning is no coincidence, as around 30 cars are stolen in Germany every day. Anyone who falls victim to such an incident should immediately call the police and report the theft to their insurance company, as the ADAC explains here.

Traffic accident under the influence of alcohol

On the same Sunday evening, a traffic accident at the level crossing on Eggersdorfer Straße in Schönebeck caused a stir. A 31-year-old car driver collided with the railway system, but fortunately both he and his two passengers were uninjured. During the subsequent inspection, however, the police noticed a strong smell of breath alcohol. A voluntary breath alcohol test showed a shocking level of 2.42 per mille. The driver's license was confiscated and administrative proceedings were initiated. There was significant damage to the railway system, which worried residents and the police alike.

It is always worth questioning your own ability to drive and avoiding consuming alcohol and drugs before driving. The consequences can be not only expensive, but also potentially life-threatening - both for the driver and other road users.

What to do in the event of theft and vandalism?

As if worrying about car theft wasn't enough, some people also face a challenge when it comes to vandalism. Partially comprehensive insurance is of no help here. In order to protect yourself against such damage, you should choose a fully comprehensive insurance option when choosing insurance. In the event of theft, there are also a few steps to take: This includes de-registering the vehicle at the road traffic office in order to avoid additional vehicle taxes and insurance premiums.

A timely deregistration should take place within 14 days of the incident. It is also important to only provide truthful information to the police and to request copies of the theft report for the insurance company. If you have any further questions, a lawyer can help if difficulties arise. So taking a look at your own insurance policy could prove useful - especially at a time when the roads should be safer.

The latest incidents in Bernburg and Schönebeck are an urgent wake-up call to all vehicle owners to be careful and aware of their rights and responsibilities. This means you can always stay on the safe side, even in these increasingly turbulent times.
