Fire department deployment: wildfires between Schönebeck and Calbe!

The fire brigade is currently in constant operation in the region around Schönebeck. Several fires have broken out in the last few hours, which poses major challenges for the emergency services that were alerted. Among the sources of the fire is a wildfire in Felgeleben, which was quickly classified as a grain field fire due to its extent. In addition, a turf fire in Gnadau and a wildfire in Calbe Ost were reported, all of which appear to be connected to each other. MZ reports

The alerted fire departments come from different places: Calbe, Schwarz, Barby, and later also Sachsendorf and Groß Rosenburg. In Felgeleben, the fire departments from Ranies, Plötzky and Pretzien also provide support. In Calbe Ost, the full-time security guard from Bernburg was called in, and reinforcements from Löderitz and Breitenhagen were also needed. The situation is responsible, as the fire departments between Schönebeck and Nienburg are constantly busy with emergency services.

Cause of the fires

The investigation has shown that a hot freight train started the fires on the embankments along the railway line between Schönebeck and Calbe. A technical defect in the brakes, known as hot running, led to flying sparks that set dry grass on fire. The federal police confirmed this course of events and determined that there was neither a criminal offense nor any third-party guilt. Volksstimme reports

The fire brigade had difficulties extinguishing the fire because the railway line was closed and the electricity was switched off while the fire was being fought. Despite the risks associated with working near electrified systems, the emergency services had to reach many fire sites, some of which were difficult to access. Signal cables along the route were also severely damaged, which will affect train services. The estimated damage amounts to several hundred thousand euros.

A look at the fire statistics

A newly published report on fire statistics from the CFS CTIF highlights how common such fire events are around the world. The report includes data from 55 countries and shows, among other things, the type of fire service operations and the number of fires. These comprehensive statistics from different countries provide an interesting overview of the causes of fires and their impact on emergency services. CFS CTIF reports

The alerted fire brigades from Schönebeck, Barby and Calbe are still fighting the flames and are doing everything they can to put out the fire and prevent further damage. The situation remains tense and the emergency services are grateful for the broad support of the surrounding fire departments. Every deployment is viewed as an important experience for future challenges and shows once again how well the community cohesion works.
