Packebusch: 1,000 euros for Renate and the Kakerbeck children's fire department!

In Packebusch, a small but lively district of Kalbe-Milde, Renate's smile, 66 years old, shines even brighter. She recently received a prize of 1,000 euros, a prize that not only benefits her but also the Kakerbeck children's fire department, which also receives 1,000 euros. The handover of this symbolic check is organized by Raiffeisenbank Kalbe-Bismark and shows once again how important the community's commitment is.

The children's fire brigade, in which Renate's grandchildren are also active, offers the young people valuable experience. “Here the children not only learn how they can help in an emergency, but they also grow from the challenge,” emphasizes Renate. But without sufficient financial support from municipalities, the work of the fire brigade could be at risk. Renate hopes that such initiatives will draw attention to the need to support children and youth fire departments.

The support of the fire department

Financial support for fire departments plays a central role in civil protection and rescue services. According to current information, the period from 2012 to 2024 will bring total funding of 206.1 million euros for municipal fire departments. This funding comes from a variety of sources, including the fire protection tax and local government budgets.

A flat-rate funding of 20 million euros per year will be provided for the years 2025 and 2026, which exceeds the previous budget and further stabilizes the financial basis for many fire departments. In addition, the disaster control tasks of the districts and independent cities will receive an additional 7 million euros to ensure operational capability here too.

Challenges and successes

It is important not to lose sight of the challenges that children's fire departments and their carers face. Renate says that despite the encouraging donations, the local fire department is often on its own when it comes to financing its activities. “We need more support and understanding for the fire brigade’s concerns,” she appeals.

It is all the more gratifying that thanks to such donations, initiatives such as the Kakerbeck children's fire department can continue to flourish. Renate hopes that many of her other neighbors will be inspired to get involved and secure fire service work for the next generation.
