Large demonstration in Wittenberg: Protests for real democracy on Reformation Day!
On Friday, October 27, 2025, Reformation Day will be celebrated in nine German federal states, including North Rhine-Westphalia. During this tradition, numerous celebrations and demonstrations take place in Wittenberg, the cradle of the Reformation. On1 reports that this year the protests are not only taking place in Germany, but also in other European cities, such as Vienna.
A central theme of the event is mobilization against the political measures taken in the wake of the corona pandemic. The demonstrations are intended to serve as a platform for a movement called “Reformation 2.0”. This citizens' initiative, which has its origins in the so-called Corona Monday walks, wants to send a clear signal and advocate for political reforms. Holger List, a well-known bar owner from Wittenberg, particularly stood out as the initiator of this movement.
Reformation demo with clear demands
The initiative is planning a large demonstration in Wittenberg for the actual Reformation Day on October 31st. Under the motto “United for real democracy against dictatorship – for WHO exit”, the aim is to mobilize around 10,000 participants, similar to the response from last year. The program not only includes speeches from prominent guest speakers such as Dr. Roman Kubetschek and Uwe Kranz, but also the symbolic reading out of ten demands that demand the resignation of the federal government and the abolition of the existing party system. Alexander Wallasch emphasizes that this initiative is politically oriented but not religious.
- Sofortiger Rücktritt der Bundesregierung und Bildung einer Übergangsregierung mit Fachkompetenz.
- Abschaffung des jetzigen Parteisystems, Wahl von Einzelpersonen.
- Souveränität Deutschlands, Friedensvertrag mit ehemaligen „Siegermächten“ und eigene Verfassung.
- Abschaffung des Weltwirtschaftsforums und Austritt aus NATO, EU, WHO, UNO.
Public attention is also attracted by illustrative actions such as a candlelight march to the castle church, where the ten theses are read out. The Epoch Times also plans to stream the event live, which promises additional reach and visibility.
The protests and demonstrations in Wittenberg and beyond show that citizens still have a great interest in political changes. As society grapples with new challenges, the question remains what lasting impulses will result from these movements.
