Art highlights in Saxony: Discover the new exhibitions!

There is currently an exciting exhibition in the Saxon city of Chemnitz with the title“The new city – Chemnitz as Karl Marx city”, which can be seen in the Schloßbergmuseum until February 1, 2026. The exhibition highlights the history of Chemnitz in the period after the Second World War and illustrates it with historical photographs, building plans, neon signs and everyday objects. For an entrance fee of 8 euros, reduced price 5 euros, visitors can immerse themselves in times past and experience the evolution of the city up close. Another highlight is the exhibition“European Realities”, which will be presented at the Gunzenhauser Museum from April 27th to August 10th, 2025. Admission is 10 euros, reduced price 6.50 euros, and children and students from Chemnitz University of Technology even have free entry. The Industrial Museum also houses a fascinating exhibition entitled“Tales of Transformation”, which can be seen until November 16, 2025 and focuses on the city's 150-year industrial history.

Variety of exhibitions in Chemnitz

The exhibition“Work show – Made in Saxony”, which will take place from April 2nd to September 4th, 2025 in the former machine tool factory, shows the works of over 300 creative minds from Saxony. Entry here is 5 euros, reduced price 3 euros and entry is free for children up to 14 years old. Particular attention is paid in the“Gallery Oben and Clara Mosch”focuses on the alternative art scene in Karl-Marx-Stadt in the 1970s, and this exhibition is open until February 15, 2026.

In addition to art, the city of Chemnitz also has a lot to offer when you look at the Neue Sächsische Galerie. According to chemnitz.de The gallery is the most important museum for contemporary art in the region and has been dedicated to the development of art in Saxony since 1945. Every year, six to eight exhibitions are shown in the gallery, which include classical and media art as well as design. The gallery's collection contains almost 12,000 works and therefore forms a valuable basis for research.
